Lighting the Path to Learning: A Warm Welcome to My Teacher Blog

Hello, fellow educators! I am thrilled to embark on this journey and share my passion for teaching with all of you. Welcome to my blog, where I will document our amazing classroom experiences, offer valuable insights, and celebrate the joys and challenges of teaching young minds.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Charity Simpson, and I have been teaching for over 15 years now with the past seven in the classroom. Teaching has been my passion and calling since I was a wide-eyed four-year-old, eagerly playing teacher with my friends and dolls. I hoarded every paper my teachers sent home and decorated my bedroom like a classroom. Every year for Christmas, I asked for a red pen and a grade book. Surprisingly, I never did get that present!

My husband and I have been married for nearly 19 years. We have lived here, there and everywhere and we often say that we’ve lived many different lives; from law enforcement to pastoring, to the field of education. After six years of teaching high school, my husband is stepping out of the classroom this upcoming year and stepping into his new role as Dean of Students.

It took me a little longer to begin my journey to teaching as I devoted my time to being a wife and homeschooling mom. Staying home and educating our children allowed me the freedom to work on earning my degree in elementary education while staying home and taking care of our three children.

Our oldest two children just graduated from high school and are headed off to college this fall. Our oldest son is planning to become a high school history teacher. Our daughter is studying marine biology with the end goal of being a zoologist specializing in marine animals. Our youngest is a junior in high school and a state-champion wrestler and has shown a passion for cooking so we are interested to see where this takes him.

Parenting at this phase is a challenging blend of supporting, guiding and letting go. My mama's heart is so proud of all of my “babies” and their accomplishments! It is an exciting time watching them grow in independence and determination as they set off to chase their dreams.

I recently completed my master’s degree and am now pursuing my Ph.D. What can I say, I love learning and I try to instill that same quest for knowledge in my students. I am fortunate to have a family that supports and encourages me in all aspects of life. It’s an exciting time with a lot of changes for our family.

I understand the challenges and demands of teaching and parenting. It requires patience, flexibility, and an unwavering commitment to both our students and our families. There are moments when the juggling act feels overwhelming. In those moments, I am thankful for the support of my family, co-workers and friends who help me find strength, inspiration, and a renewed sense of purpose.

I have found that often times being a teacher and a parent go hand in hand. The experiences and lessons I learn in the classroom often spill over into my role as a mother, and vice versa. My heart is full of love, understanding, and empathy for my students and the challenges and triumphs of parenthood have helped to deepen my understanding of the unique challenges that my students face.

I am about to embark on my seventh year of teaching, and my fourth year in second grade. Second grade is a magical stage in a child’s educational journey. They are transitioning from building foundational skills to more independent work and developing all-important critical thinking skills. It is a year filled with exploration, growth, and endless possibilities.

Teaching second graders is so much more than academics to me. It’s about nurturing the whole child. I am passionate about creating a safe space for my students to express themselves, build friendships, and develop essential life skills. We work on building resilience, fostering empathy and embracing diversity, equipping their young minds with the tools they need to thrive in this ever-changing world.

There is nothing like the magical feeling of inspiring young minds, witnessing their growth and sparking their curiosity while making learning fun. I am passionate about creating fun learning experiences where my students are having so much fun that they forget they are learning.

I love to learn from veteran teachers and share my ideas with others to hopefully inspire you on your own teaching journey. I do not claim to know everything about teaching. I am always learning and striving to perfect my craft. In this blog, I will provide you with an inside look into my classroom. I will share stories of triumph and challenges, creative teaching strategies and practical tips that I have gathered along the way. I believe in creating a joyful and inclusive learning environment that celebrates every child’s unique abilities and inspires them to reach their full potential.

Through engaging lesson plans, hands-on activities, and a sprinkle of fun, I strive to create an atmosphere where learning becomes an adventure. From exploring the wonders of literature and nurturing a love for reading to unraveling the mysteries of math and encouraging problem-solving skills…every day is a journey and every day is an opportunity to make education come alive.

I invite you to join me on this incredible journey as we unlock the potential of every child, one day at a time. We will celebrate the milestones, find inspiration in the little moments, and create a supportive community that uplifts and encourages each other. I hope to inspire you on this journey and remind you that you are not alone on this beautiful, messy journey.

Thank you for joining me in this extraordinary calling of teaching! I am thrilled to share my experiences with you. I hope that we can learn from one another and make a positive impact in the lives of our young learners. Let’s embark on this adventure together!

Stay tuned for my next blog post, where we will dive into how to create magic in our classroom as we explore the wonders of learning through the eyes of a child. Until then, keep dreaming big and embracing the joys of education!

Warmest regards,

Charity “Mrs. Simpson’s Sweeties”
